What is iSRD?
iSRD stands for Infrared
Smart Removal of Defect, which is a combination
of hardware and software solution to automatically eliminate
minor flaws, such as dust and scratch, using infrared channels.
It brings a new dimension in defect removal technologies.
How
does iSRD work?
Thanks to the long wavelength of infrared light,
it can penetrate the colour emulsions of film negatives and
slides virtually unhindered.
There are only problems if it encounters scratches, dust particles, lint etc.
which also cast shadows in infrared light.
iSRD exploits this characteristic by scanning
the image in two passes. The first pass is the infrared scan
and the second pass the normal RGB scan.
Once the software has completed both scans,
an additional image channel created automatically from the
infrared image is used for the dust and scratch removal calculation.
What are the
advantages of iSRD?
The iSRD does not only offer effective defect
removal, but also provide a variety of controls to experts.
The user is allowed to adjust Threshold and preview the result
in real-time mode.
The SilverFast Ai offers up to 4 layers of
iSRD/SRD options, which allow the user to apply different
setting to different areas with "lasso" selections.
The rest area can be ramained untouched.
The iSRD also offers auto mode, it operates
completely on its own, applies corrected result to the entire
scan frame.
